What's Open?

Privacy Policy

Effective date: March 3, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how Brian Piragis ("I", "me", or "my") collects, uses, and handles your information when you use the What's Open? mobile application (the "App").

I am committed to protecting your privacy. This policy is straightforward: I collect the minimum information necessary to operate the App, I do not sell your data, and I do not share it with advertisers.

Information I Collect

Location Data

When you enable the "Use My Location" feature, the App accesses your device's GPS coordinates to find businesses near you. Your location is used only to perform searches and is never stored on my servers beyond the duration of the search request.

Search Queries

When you search for a business or browse a category, the search query and your approximate location are sent to my proxy server, which forwards the request to the Google Places API. I also store search activity (including query text, category, and result counts) to monitor reliability, prevent abuse, and improve search quality.

Device Identifier

The App generates an anonymous, randomly generated device identifier (UUID) and stores it securely on your device. This identifier is used solely to track your daily search count and to determine whether you have purchased What's Open? Pro. It is not linked to your name, email address, or any other personally identifiable information.

Purchase Information

If you purchase What's Open? Pro, the transaction is processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. I do not receive or store your payment information. I receive only a confirmation that a purchase was made for the purpose of unlocking Pro features on your device.

Information I Do Not Collect

How I Use Your Information

The information collected is used exclusively to:

Third-Party Services

The App uses the Google Places API to retrieve business information including names, addresses, hours of operation, ratings, and other details. Your search queries and location data are transmitted to Google's servers to fulfill search requests. Google's use of this data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy.

The App does not use advertising networks or social media SDKs. It does use first-party analytics on my own server to monitor app performance and usage.

Data Retention

Your anonymous device identifier and daily search count are stored on my server for the purpose of enforcing usage limits. Daily search counts are reset every 24 hours. If you delete the App, your device identifier and associated data will no longer be used and will be removed from my server within 30 days.

Children's Privacy

The App is not directed to children under the age of 13. I do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the App, please contact me and I will promptly delete it.

Your Rights

You may request deletion of your device's data from my server at any time by contacting me at the email address below. Because the device identifier is anonymous and not linked to your identity, please include the approximate date you first used the App to help identify your record.

Changes to This Policy

I may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When I do, I will revise the effective date at the top of this page. I encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the App after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
